Ben Kapur
Aged six Ben had his first taste of live music at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis, watching his Dad’s favourite Jazz bands perform to the local crowds. Such was the impression they left on him that Ben soon persuaded his parents into buying him his very own Saxophone.
Not long after Ben made his stage debut playing the instrument on the very same stage! In fact, Ben’s Saxophone skills developed such that he was later chosen to perform with a 20-piece jazz band at the Royal Albert Hall, for 2 years running.
Ben’s destiny however, was not the saxophone, but the guitar.
He would teach himself the iconic instrument, and by the age of 22 Ben was fronting various rock bands in the South West and honing his abilities both as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist.
It was at one of his many gigs that he was spotted by Geoff Baker (PR to Paul McCartney). Despite Ben’s young age, Geoff was so impressed that he hired Ben on the spot to be Musical Director at Geoff ’s own ‘Guitars On The Beach’ event.
Held in Lyme Regis in 2013, this hugely successful concert was led by Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan. Over 3,000 guitarists from across the UK gathered together to perform Smoke On The Water, setting a new record for the largest number of guitarists all playing at once. Ben’s role in the event would later lead to one of his most memorable live performances where he performed alongside The Pretenders’ Robbie McIntosh.
Ben is an ardent Blues Rocker, citing his influences as Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, John Mayer, Jared James Nichols and Peter Green. Ben also has a particular fondness for vintage guitars, with his ultimate pride and joy being a 1972 Fender Jazz Bass - which you may just see him sporting during the show!
